Alumni Award
Andrew “Andy” Mouw – Alumni Award for Service to Country
Mr. Andrew Mouw is an 88 year old veteran who was adopted as a toddler from Children’s Square U.S.A.. A defining moment in Andy’s young life came in December 1941 when, while listening to the radio, he first heard about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In 1944, he and three buddies joined the Navy. Andy served in World War II aboard the USS Bismarck Sea CVE-95 VC-86. This ship would become the last U.S. aircraft carrier sunk by kamikazes. His story and recollections of the sinking of the USS Bismarck Sea have been captured in a 48 page account of his experiences as he fought for his life aboard the sinking vessel. |
